Jimmy Carr will be in Northampton, Isle Of Wight. They will appear at Royal and Derngate on February 4th, Shanklin Theatre on February 10th.
Born in Hounslow in 1972, Jimmy Carr began his television career helped by his wealthy father's company, JC Productions. The mockumentary, The Colour of Funny, brought him to the attention of bosses at Channel 4, who made him the host of avant-garde game show, Distraction, which was essentially a vehicle for Carr's well-rehearsed one-liners. He went on to present Your Face Or Mine? as well as several of the channel's famous 100 Greatest... clip compilation shows, before also becoming the regular host of Big Fat Quiz Of The Year (since 2004). In the meantime, Carr also wrote gags for Leigh Francis (Bo Selecta), Ricky Gervais (Meet Ricky Gervais) and live scripts for Frank Skinner and Lily Savage.
In 2006, Carr won a British Comedy Award for Best Live Stand Up, for his touring show, Gag Reflex, and has appeared on many other TV shows including several in America such as Late Night With Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and hosting a US version of Distraction on Comedy Central, thus becoming one of the few UK comedians (along with Russell Brand) to 'crack' the States. Carr also appeared regularly on radio, on such shows as Loose Ends, The Fred MacAulay Show and Flight of the Conchords, and in 2009 he covered for Zane Grey on his Radio 1 evening show, to a good reception. In 2007, Carr became the first comedian to perform a show in cyberspace, with his Second Life show, transmitted from a club in London, a feat which made the Guinness Book of Records.
Carr is perhaps most famous for his stand up shows, which he considers the most vital part of his repertoire. His 2003 show, Charm Offensive, completely sold out its month-long run at the Edinburgh Festival, as did his 2006 touring show, A Public Display of Affection. His act isn't without controversy, though, as he's landed himself in hot water several times with his 'near the knuckle' routines, most notably in 2009 when he made a joke about British soldiers who'd lost limbs in the Iraq War, as well as other 'gags' about rape and disability. As with most comedians, though, the conflicts surrounding Carr only seem to increase interest in him, and recordings of his stand up shows, including Comedian (2007), In Concert (2008) and Being Funny (2011) always sell well. To date, Carr has sold over a million DVDs.
In 2012, Carr's Gagging Order tour will commence around the UK, which is expected to last 18 months and will be accompanied by a DVD to be released around November 2012.
